HomeScope Tutorials -- Insteon Configurer
Crawling Insteon Devices Return To Index

When the HomeScope system is first started, or after a Factory Reset (provided that no Devices or Links have been added to the Configuration), and provided that an Insteon PLM or PLC is attached to the system, the user will be given the option to "Crawl" an existing Insteon network.

To "Crawl" an Insteon network, you must already have an Insteon network with devices linked to each other and at least one of those devices linked to the Insteon PLM or PLC attached to the system.

The HomeScope system can then detect all linked devices, and automatically add them to your system. Other devices can be added later using the Editor, if required.

Depending on the number of Insteon devices in the system, the "Crawling" process could take an hour or more.

Once the "Crawl" process has begun, it will continue without any further intervention from the user and, on completion, it will populate the system Configuration with all of the Devices and Links found. The user can then examine and/or modify the new Configuration using the system Editor.

If it is necessary to stop the "Crawl" process for any reason, this can be done by touching the CANCEL button or, if a keyboard is present, by touching the "C" key. The user will be asked to confirm the request to abort the process. If the process is canceled, no additions will be made to the Configuration and no report will be written, regardless of the number of Devices or Links already found.

When the process is complete, the user will be asked whether to save a report of the Devices and Links found.  Unless the user declines, the report will be written.  The report is written to a subfolder of the current application folder, with a name incorporating the time at which the process was completed, in the form: \Reports\Devices_Detected_ yymmdd_hhmm.txt.

Touch the red title bar at the top of the page or, if a keyboard is present hit the F1 key, to display this Help page.  Touch the red title bar at the top of this page or press the F1 key again to hide this page.

Note that the "Crawl" process will continue even while this Help page is displayed.
