The HomeScope system recognizes most Insteon or X10 devices and, in the case of Insteon devices, can automatically detect their presence and capabilities.

Devices may be Switching (can control other devices), Loadable (can be connected to a Primary Load) or both.  The required parameters are determined by the type of Device.  Loadable Devices may also have Dimming and Ramping capabilities, but not all Loadable Devices have such capabilities.

The Device Wizard provides an easy way to add Devices to the system and/or to set their Local On-Level and Ramp-Time parameters.  However other fields, which are set to default values for new Devices, cannot be edited without going to Expert Mode.

To add new Devices to the system, first select the Zone to which the Device is to be added.  You cannot Detect new Devices unless one and only one Zone is selected.  Then touch the DETECT DEVICE button, or press the T key if a keyboard is present.  A message will appear: "Press SET button on device for 10 seconds now ..." and you will have 4 minutes in which to press the SET button on the target Device.  For many Devices, this simply entails pressing and holding the ON or OFF switch for 10 seconds.  Once detected, the new Device will be added to the system and displayed as the currently selected Device.

Automatically Detect a Device

DETECT DEVICE button.  Then press SET button on Device for 10 seconds.

T hotkey. Then press SET button on Device for 10 seconds.

Cancel Device Detection

DETECT DEVICE button.

C hotkey.

Change Local On Level for Selected Device  (List of settable levels from 0.0% to 100.0% displayed for Devices with Dimming capability.  Sets Device On Level to be applied when the Device is turned on locally.)

On Level Listbox.  Then Up or Down arrows to Left/Right of Listbox to change field to required value.  SAVE CHANGES button to save.

TAB key until Pn Level Listbox in focus (Title is red). Up, Down, Home or End keys to select required value.  (When Listbox is in focus, it is also possible to type in starting characters of required entry until it appears, then press Enter key to select or Esc key to cancel).   S key to save.

Change Local Ramp Rate for Selected Device  (List of settable levels from 0.1 secs. to 9.0 mins. displayed for Devices with Ramping capability.  Sets Device Ramp Rate to be applied when the Device is turned on or off locally.)

Ramp Time Listbox.  Then Up or Down arrows to Left/Right of Listbox to change field to required value.  SAVE CHANGES button to save.

TAB key until Ramp Time Listbox in focus (Title is red). Up, Down, Home or End keys to select required value.  (When Listbox is in focus, it is also possible to type in starting characters of required entry until it appears, then press Enter key to select or Esc key to cancel).   S key to save.

Go to Expert Mode

GO TO EXPERT MODE button

Exit from Device editor

DONE WITH DEVICES button
