The HomeScope system recognizes most Insteon or X10 devices and, in the case of Insteon devices, can automatically detect their presence and capabilities.

Devices may be Switching (can control other devices), Loadable (can be connected to a Primary Load) or both.  The required parameters are determined by the type of Device.  Loadable Devices may also have Dimming and Ramping capabilities, but not all Devices have such capabilities.

Some parameters, such as Device Type and Device Address, are required fields.  Other parameters are for User convenience in identifying Devices.

Device parameters are:

Parameter Values Purpose

Device Address

Must be in correct format:
xx.xx.xx for Insteon Devices
x## for X10 Devices

Format determines Device Type (Insteon or X10).

Device Type

Insteon: List of recognized Types.
X10: Switching, Loadable or both.

Used to determine Device capabilities.

Device Location

Any text entry

Used to identify the Device.

Device Position

List of L,R,LL,LR,RL,RR or nothing.

Used to identify the Device where multiple Devices have the same Location.

Device Zone

List of Enabled Zones

Used to assign the Device to a Zone (if any defined).

Primary Load Location

Any unique text entry

Used to identify the Load controlled by the Device.

Short Name

Any unique text entry

Used to identify the Load when space requires a short name.

Local On Level

List of settable levels from 0.0% to 100.0%

Sets Device On Level to be applied when the Device is turned on locally.

Local Ramp Rate

List of settable levels from 0.1 secs. to 9.0 mins.

Sets Device Ramp Rate to be applied when the Device is turned on or off locally.

The following procedures may be used to edit the system Devices:

Left or Right keys.  Ctrl/Left or Ctrl/Right keys to go to start or end of list.

Select/Deselect Zone (multiple Zones may be selected)

Target Zone

Space key

Scroll Device list up or down (if scrollbar shown)

Up or Down button on scrollbar

Up or Down keys.  Home/End keys to go to top or bottom of list.

Select a Device

The target Device in the list

Deselect Device

Selected Device or Devices title bar

Esc key

Add a new Device (deselect current Device first)

ADD DEVICE button.

A hotkey

Automatically Detect a Device (deselect current Device first)

DETECT DEVICE button.  Then press SET button on Device for 10 seconds.

E hotkey. Then press SET button on Device for 10 seconds.

Import Devices  (from text file: DEVICES.TXT in Application folder.  *See Documentation for format)

IMPORT DEVICES button.

M hotkey

Export Devices  (to text file: DEVICES\DEVICES_yyMMdd_HHmm.TXT in Application folder.)

EXPORT DEVICES button.

X hotkey

Delete selected Device

DELETE DEVICE button and, when Confirmation message appears, YES button to confirm.

E hotkey and, when Confirmation message appears, Y key to confirm.

Change Device order

Select a Device and MOVE UP or MOVE DOWN to change order

Select a Device and U or D keys to change order

View / Edit Details for selected Device

VIEW / EDIT button

V hotkey

View / Edit LOAD parameters for selected Device  (select View / Edit details first)

LOAD button

L hotkey

View / Edit DEVICE parameters for selected Device  (select View / Edit details first)

DEVICE button

D hotkey

Erase Device memory (select LOAD parameters first)

ERASE button and, when Confirmation message appears, YES button to confirm.

E hot key and, when Confirmation message appears, Y key to confirm.

Review Device parameters

Target textbox.  (On-screen keyboard displays for text fields).

TAB or Shft/TAB key -- title for focused parameter displays in red.  (On-screen keyboard displays for text fields).

Edit Text field

Target Textbox to display on-screen keyboard.  Use on-screen keyboard to enter/edit required text and touch Enter to complete, or Esc to cancel.  SAVE CHANGES button to save.

TAB key until target Textbox in focus (Title is red and on-screen keyboard displays).  Enter/edit required text and press Enter key to complete, or Esc key to cancel.  S key to save.

Edit List field

Target Listbox.  Then Up or Down arrows to Left/Right of Listbox to change field to required value.  SAVE CHANGES button to save.

TAB key until target Listbox in focus (Title is red). Up, Down, Home or End keys to select required value.  (When Listbox is in focus, it is also possible to type in starting characters of required entry until it appears, then press Enter key to select or Esc key to cancel).   S key to save.

Exit from Device editor

RETURN button.

R key.
